They need polinating...either let the insects do the job, or get a small fine brush (make up brushes are good) and do it by hand

ok Im confused This si the first time I have ever heard they self polinate.  Ive always been told I need to polinate them if the insects cant, this is since last year when I started growing them? Could I have just left them to fend for themselves without worrying about opening the GH door to get the helpful creepies in? (and maybe let them grow faster too?)

I've never pollinated any of mine, even the ones in the polytunnel, perhaps I've just been lucky????

Hi,

I don't know if it depends on the type but I am growing the following and they are not self fertile:

Chilli Apache,
Giant Jalapeno
Chilli Fuego
Scotch Bonnett.

I have read up on these most chillis are not self fertile but I am not an expert.

What i do is rub the flower with my finger and then pollinate other flowers on the plant (Or group of plants) I have some success with lots of chillis growing, a friend of mine from spain used to use a small brush.

Suspect in Poly tunnels some insect is getting in?

Where I have missed or not pollinated properly no fruit has formed.

I suspect they are both, initially requiring cross pollination but if that fails then they will self pollinate. I mist mine in the evenings and although they are in a greenhouse never have any probs with pollination.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
