Cabbage Seedlings - when to thin?!

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to growing my own so am after some good advice please.

I planted a row of cabbage seeds about 4 weeks ago and my resulting seedlings are about 3cm high at the moment. They are very close together - do they need thinning?

If so, what is the best way of going about this?

Is there anything else i should do, apart from watering regularly during a dry spell?

Any advice appreciated.

i think u transplant them to their permament bed now, apparently the root system is much better when u transplant them, so dig them all up - carefully - and place them a foot apart and give them a good water.
dont forget to cover them with fine netting to stop pigeons and butterfly caterpillars eating them. i use the green netting that scaffolders use or u could use fleece.

You could also try popping them into individual 3" pots & bringing them on that way. They are easier to protect & look after that way.

They can then be planted out in a few weeks time with a good root system.
