1st runner beans
« on: June 24, 2008, 18:37 »
I noticed yesterday that I had a few beans on my runners.  Is this really early?
They should be really good ones.  The beans have been saved and passed down for about 100 years or more.  My maternal grandmother's father grew them when she was a child (she will be 90 next month). He told her he got them from his father(who was born in the road that backs on to my allotments).  They came to my dad from my nan's brother and it's now my turn.

They sound like very interesting beans, I think we would all like to give them a go for old time sake.
Heritage beans, sounds good to me, I would grow them if had the chance and gladly pay your post and packing with a small charge for your bother.
Just like to say some off my beans are at the top of the pole and some are at starters orders.

That's a brilliant story and so much more useful than most family heirlooms.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Wow good beans - I had a sort through seed tin last night and decided to put a few in ground between the slowcoaches that are only about a foot high - i reckon half of them still think its easly spring and have not woken up yet either that or I've mixed the ****seeds up again and they are  dwarf

What a great story Sharon, I wonder if I can pass on anything as interesting to my grandchildren...

So are we on a time rift - it must be August in Kent, and about March here in Gloucestershire if the difference in our beans is anything to go by.

In that case it's still last November here in North Wales!  :?
