Dying Mange Tout
« on: June 23, 2008, 15:56 »
Second question about poor crops from me.
Am trying Mange Tout for the first time. I'm growing them up a net, with a mesh tent over them. They have grown to about 1 ft tall, produced a few pods, but they seem to have stopped growing and are now starting to go pale brown as if dying. I try to water them regularly and we have had loads of wet weather so I can't see that they would be dying from shortage of water. Has anyone any idea what is going wrong?
Thanks.
PS they are being grown about 6 feet from a leylandii hedge - could this be the fault?
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

Pictures would help  :D

Ifplants are raised indoors they must be hardened of properly even in the summer.  Feeding is essential too as upert says until they grow their roots out of their container soil.

It's a challange to grow anything within the vicinity of a leylandii hedge, but as possible as anything that something nibbled the roots.

Thanks to all. Will try to post piccies, but can't today - too busy.
Originally put slug pellets round them, and growmore pellets in the soil.
I will pull up the worst specimen to check underground, and report back.
Again Thanks.
