grit, calcium and egg-eating

Further to my query about what people feed their chickens - just wondered about any more views on feeding egg-shells to chickens - do they eat them? Does it make them more prone to egg-eating or not if you cook them first?

I'd like to if it works, rather than buying in oyster shell - but if it's not a good idea I'll just go on feeding eggshells to the worms instead.

And is oyster shell different from the grit that they need to aid digestion?

Oyster shell is very cheap. Washing baking and crushing egg shells is a faff and you have to mix it into some wet feed for them.

I gave up using old egg shell ages ago. And my chooks actually seem to enjoy snacking on their dish of mixed grit and oyster shell :roll: Prefere a bag of crisps myself
