OK ! OK, 'us' then
On Friday, I had a broody hatching some eggs and when I checked her, I saw to my horror that there was an almost dead chick that had been kicked out of the nest. I picked it up to place it back under the hen, only to find that there was a second chick that the murdering b!tch had neatly removed the head from. Needless to say, I was not well pleased. :x Time to put plan B into practice.
In another pen, I had an almost forgotten broody that had been sitting on eggs for several weeks, so I quickly scooped up the remaining eggs and took them to place under her, but can you imagine my suprise when I lifted her up only to find that she'd been sitting on thin air. There quite literally wasn't so much as a single solitary egg in the nest. Time was of the esscence for the fast cooling eggs that I had in my hand, so I simply slung the hen off the nest, dumped the eggs plus chick into it and left her to puzzle out what was happening.
I hinted that we might be having a happy ending to this thread and this morning, sure enough, there was a row of little beaks peeping out from beneath her.
Yet a few more beaks to feed and photos will follow in due course of course.
