Just had a look through one of my Katie Thear books and she recommends these as dual purpose breeds

Barnevelder
Ixworth
jersey Giant
Marans
New Hampshire Red
Plymouth Rock
Rhode Island Red
Sussex
Wyandotte

Don't know if that's any use to you

I have Barnevelders, they're good egg layers, not eaten the meat thou
and Sussex, very good egg layers but mine go broody quite a bit
