They don't look too straight do they!!

It's my first go so try try try again.
My seeds are to hand and all ready to go out.
I think I didn't thin them out enough - is that what the problem is do you think :?:

Always ready for advice :D

Never thin mine, I try - I said TRY - to sow quite thinly.

Stones?

Freshly manured ground?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Could be stones!  Can't be manure as I read not to put it down for carrots so this bed is manure free.
Will try to do more stoning before next lot goes in!

 I mean getting the stones out of the ground not stoning someone, although there are a few people that could do with one!! :D

So whats the reason for not using manure, does it just stop them growing straight or does it cause other problems?

Manure makes them fork....so you can have a carrot with many appendages...so to speak :)

I would just like to add, that despite their curliness they tasted superb.  I chopped them up and added them to a bolognaise sauce last night - they were sweet and yummy - not like the ones you get from S/markets that taste soapy (to me they do anyway!)

Thanks for all the help so far

I am going to harvest some spring onions for my dinner later - will let you know what they come out like!

Apparently Brussels now says that unstraight veg is OK!!
I have quite stoney soil so I have planted mine in tubs and put the tubs up more than 2 foot high to fool those carrot fly.

I have only sown them on Tuesday. Do you want a picture of the tub or wait until they have started growing? I am experimenting this year. We have grown early potatoes in buckets and had quite a good crop.

Might be , as they seem to be twisting around each other.

I only do them in tubs too, I got some decent ones last year, but I could have done with sowing more, they got eaten in two days
(by my little boy!! He was so proud he took one to school to show his teacher :-) )

I have been down to the plot and here is my tub. I bought the tub from Aldi and I have just put it on an upturned bucket. I can but try.
