A question about chillies
« on: June 18, 2008, 12:52 »
I have several plants which I started from seed in late March in the propogator. They look healthy enough but they are very small and growing very slowly. They are in pots, in the greenhouse
My tomatoes were started at the same time and they now have flowers.
Does anyone have any advice for me to speed them up? They will never flower at this rate.

Thanks very much
Henny Penny
Happy hens lay nicer eggs

My chilli plants are still small, but that's because they are  still in 3inch pots!  I haven't had the time, weather or inclination to get them into the polytunnel!  Now its got all it's nice compost in there ready!

But I will over the next couple of days, except I need to give the house a bit of a clean before Brians son and family come over Saturday! lol

They are jalapenos and about 6" tall with around 6-8 true leaves.

I'm just a beginner but check the roots, they could be in need of potting on.

I find mine have a growth spurt everytime I move them to a bigger pot.

Good Luck.

Seems about right to be honest - you really can't compare them to toms growth wise. I put my Jals in 28/03 and they're still in 3inch pots no sign of flowers or the need to repot yet.

Id give it another 2-3 weeks before worrying, we could do with a little more sun to get them moving on a bit.

Mine are in their final pots but they are going slow too and no flowers on any of them.
