I harvested these at the weekend after my neighbouring plot / Guru told me to dig some up as all the flowers had started to fall away. I told him they were my maincrop of which he replied they can't be as they've all flowered. I thought these were going to be Cara maincrop.

I thought the earlies I had sowed were Swift but they don't look like them.

Mental note to oneself, 'write things down'. :|

Nice new potatos though!! :)

Top tip for camping....don't go.

they do look like Cara

I'm growing them this year, again.  Good looking spuds.  Cara is a main crop so I wouldn't dig em all up just yet

They look like Cara to me too. I grew them last year and they lasted me through until February this year so I am growing them again. We have planted 60 tubers of Cara and one of those has flower buds on even though my earlies haven't yet.

I planted a couple of rows of cara this year at the end of April and noticed yesterday one of them was flowering...

As this is my first year growing my own when is the optimal time to dig them up;
a) 70 days after planting,
b) once the flowers and stems have died back,
c) leave them in the ground till you need them?

Thanks

Thanks for your replies. :)

Do I treat them just like new potatos? ie boil them. Dig them all up to make space & store or, do I leave them to grow bigger?

What's happened to my Swifts? Should they flower?

Confused. Not half!!!  :?

Swift will not flower,i have grown them this year and last year, they are an extra early and are ready to dig in 50 plus days.Planted 29/03/08 and dug on 21/05/08 .Have read on here some bad comments ref taste, but any homegrown new potatoes are better than supermarket spuds.
I,m glad I was born here in Cornwall, where pasties are out of this world, where the rich saffron cake that the Cornish girls make keeps the hairs on your chest tightly curled.
