Not yet no. They've gone back to the nest for the night. I can't imagine she'll keep them all for the duration. I expected the yellow ones to go first because they're not camouflaged and seem a bit smaller.

The problem with shooting is that, apparently, another fox moves in very quickly. I don't know how you could protect your lambs any other way but wish I could come up with an answer.
I've just read on another site about the demise of sheperding which would have been the old method but these days not affordable and certainly wouldn't recommend you spend the nights sleeping on the hillside !

One thing I'm sure of. If I do invent a method, I'll be a millionaire !  :D

Would this be of any use ?

http://www.foxdeterrents.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11&zenid=ef3524bf1072e08ddf04fdaa5ade17d3

I'm not endorsing this product or retailer but merely suggest it as a possible method to deter foxes.

I don't think that would work here Rob, too many other animals in the firing line ( i think it detects movement and not foxes exclusively) we'd have petrified horses, ponies, dogs, cats and sheep. and if i happened to be strolling across the field in the dead of night and it blasted water at me i'd probably get a shock too.

In that case you need a shepherd. I can do weekends and every other Friday. Bag of sandwiches and a flask of tea will do.

I think it does the world good every now and then to rethink why the wheel is round and whether we need wheels anymore.

My idea was mainly to examine if there was an alternative, more effective way than the one employed for the last hundred years. In your case, it seems there is no ther way at the moment (but I'll think about it!).
As for back garden, there seems to be a wealth of gadgets which could be effective at a price.
Its us cheapskates that have to scratch our heads a bit.

I've just had a funny thought, there's a huge mound here in the big field from where the lake was dug out (we call it the Derby bank) you sitting on top complete with deerstalker hat, plus fours,  sarnies, flask of tea ect..............

I don't know anyone else daft enough to sleep outside.

We've had no more known visits after the one a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully that means we're not worthy.

I don't know anything about sheep farming to offer suggestions.

As long as your hens are locked away securely, they should be ok.

I can only wish you luck and hope it doesn't happen again.
