dividing plots
« on: June 11, 2008, 20:38 »
hi

the allotments on my site dont have any paths dividing them to the next one

ive asked and looked round and everyone have been there for 20 years + and dont need anything like that as they all get on well and help each other out

but

does anyone know how -what i can do or use to devide my plot to the one next to me?

i just dont want anyone to start standing all over my plot when i have set crops, just got me a bit on edge after he was standing on my plot to rake his

thanks

You could try a raspberry cane hedge or any hedge made up of other types of fruit bushes. That possibly wouldn't be seen as being offensive or as a barrier to most people, just the best place to put long term plants.

do you have a rabbit problem? if so you could fence off your whole plot with rabbit defense as an excuse :D

You could maybe put some netting up or chicken wire and grow some peas / beans etc and say you need it up for support if anyone complains.
Probably keep him your neighbours off your patch.

why not build a munty frame down the whole thing. i have a simialr problem on my plot only its not people its cars that drice over it. my plot is at the end of the row and till i took it on four weeks ago was just a derlict grass plot, as such cars had been using it to turn round on, so instead of have a nice rectangle plot i have one with missing corners. so what i have done is to start construting things on those corners, a compost bin, and green house on the other. plan to plant asome apple esplaier along the egde between them. hopes it stops them.

How do you get to your plot?  :?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

even if everyone gets on you still need paths so your not all walking on each others plants. I would go with something like the raspberries as a nice productive divider, then you only have to worry about them nicking your fruit

my plot is in my garden so i dont have this problem, but i still need dividing paths.

What do all you people do for edging around beds? i have a heck of trouble stopping weeds and grass growing onto the beds

i have paths the width of my wheel barrow running down one side of the plot with spurs coming out inbetween the beds, i have broken up a load of old pallets to make an edge out of there plants, not very elegant but works resonably well.
