Locking my Greenhouse
« on: June 11, 2008, 12:01 »
Hi,

I would like to lock my greenhouse when I'm not at the allotment, but have no idea how to go about it. Is it even possible? The other greenhouses nearby have wooden frames so have been able to attach a lock. Are there special 'Greenhouse locks' There is a small hole through the frame and door, but you could only get wire through it, not much of a deterrent.

Cheers,
Arls

You know it never occured to me about someone breaking the glass. Which is very true. We don't keep anything valuable in there, just stuff we'd rather keep in there and not go wandering - I suppose the lock was more of a detterent for opportunists than anything major.

Cheers,
Arls

Our site has had an occassional shed broken into, but it's always those with no windows, as they cannot see that there is nothing of value in there to nick.

They seem not to bother if they can only see dusty canes and an odd bent rake.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

my gh has a small hole on the runner for the door into which you can put a pad lock when the door is fully closed.

This effectively acts as a jam to stop the door from being opened, but I have never bothered, seeing as they could just break the glass if they really wanted to be in

I just put a brick against the door to stop it rattling
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Some one on this site (was it you Richy) said that a lock on your shed is to keep out the honest people - how true !
