Do squashes need manure
« on: June 09, 2008, 18:51 »
Hello everyone,

My topic has now gone from worms to poo oh how nice

Anyway em daft question again, what can i say its a hobby. Do Butternut squashes and pumpkins need manure to grow or will they be  okay in just ordinary compost in a large container?

Thanks in advance for looking,

Kind regards

The horse manure will be less strong , so more 'fit' to use fresh, make sure it doesn't touch roots or foliage, can use it as a mulch a bit away from plants.

I would advise caution and go for chicken pellets. Keep the horse muck and keep turning it. It will be fine for next year. Or you could put it in and old pair of tights and sink it in a bucket of water until it's soaked then suspend it above the bucket. Dilute the liquid and even the greediest of plants should be happy!
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!
