Anything You Can't Be Arsed To Grow?

Are their any veggies or fruit that you just can't be arsed to plant because the cost/benefit  analysis of faffing about with them just...in your mind...is not justified by the end result?

So far, mine would be peas. Lovely and all that...but jeez what an effort for a handful of greenery.

if you are finding the peas are more intensive for the results  cani ask how you sow them .i plant 10 rows and guesstimate i get 5 lbs of peas from a 18 foot row , peas are a close sown crop sowing one single line is point less . one packet only produces 15 -20 pods per seed sown . so i take a shallow trench one foot wide on well manured soil and sow a pack of peas for every five feet , this also reduces the need for pea sticks as i tie string round the whole crop with stake down the outside edges  to support them ,if you search muntjacs plot there is a picture of this shown . in farming peas are sown 4 inches apart on fields  so if its good for the farm its basically down to me to adapt it to suit . incidently my mom used to sow peas in the coal buckets in the spring and did fantastic . the soot from the chimney is also recycled back onto the plot around me , i canot say i dont grow something because of the result as i grow only what i will eat , try this , if you have a row of peas planted the same as i do mine but going down the side of the plot in one long line preferably the eastern edge ( to get the sun all day  ) you may find it gives value ,,  :D

This sounds like a good idea, thanks. The wife loves peas but I used to pick them for the local farmer as a lad (got paid by the sack) and never made more than a pound a day...it just seemed like a hell of a lot of work for not much. I wouldn't mind one long row, it would edge the allotment a treat...and the wife can pick 'em.

I grew Alderman peas this year, ok, the yields weren't as brilliant as the packet said, but could have been the dry weather we had, but they grow over 5ft tall, so I grew them up canes and picked them as I do runner beans.  They were lovely.

Won't try asparagas as we are hoping to move soon, so not worth putting them in.
