so say some areas of the earth have more gravity than others does that meen carrots will grow better there because the gravity pulls the carrot deeper hence giving you you a 20ft carrot  :D

Nah, the green bit would get sucked under, and it wouldn't grow at all!  Perhaps a 20 ton ACME weight hung over the bed would pull the greens one way, and the gravity of the earth would encourage to root to grow down more.  Ooh, maybe that's what the moon does.....

yeah, give it a month and you'll have a cracking crop of rusty spades!

there is a fraction of truth in that munty, the edge on a modern blade (laser cut) is so fine (only a few atoms thick) that strong light can dislodge them and blunt the edge. But its more likely from sunlight, and anyway just the motion of air molecules will be much faster at blunting them

the moons phases have absolutely no influence on anything other than how much you can see in the dark. It doesnt matter if its a 1st quarter, full or new moon, the actual moon is still all there and is still the same mass so its gravity is the same.

admittedly it was proven that some organisms can tell the strength of the moons gravity (in the form of tidal pull) but these are all shellfish like clams

theres also a romour that if you leave your blunt razor blades under a pyramid the egyptian police will have you deported :D  :D  :D

no they dont pop out, the earths pull is stronger, that keeps em in, but the moons pull makes em thicker at the top, and is what makes the leaves stand up

So if we didn't have a moon, then we'd get a thicker growth all down the carrots and parsnips, and we wouldn't get the long thin bit that cooks so much quicker than the rest of it!!!!

Don't get the hump with us cauli, we're only joshing around!

I think its a very interesting subject.  Today I planted some cabbage seeds in the greenhouse (good day for them) and some onion seeds (not good day for them).  then I'll plant some more on a good onion day and a bad cabbage day!

I'll try anything once, and won't knock anything until I've tried it!  So there!!

Would that explain forked carrots then - being pulled in two directions at once???

I'm with grannieannie on this one - I'll definitely do some trials on my plot; I'll try most things once    Can never resist the chance to take the piss though!!

I really seemed to have opened a hornet's nest!!! It is only my opinion but I believe it to be true as is my right.
If someone wants to plant their carrots by the phases of the moon I have nothing aganst it but I think they are utterly Bonkers and wasting their time for thinking they will be getting better carrots as a result.
How about playng music to your seedlings does that give them a better start in life? Discuss.... answers on a postcard please.
