Dettol and red mite
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:03 »
I've been lurking about on another forum and they have a topic on killing red mite with diluted dettol and using it the same way as you would poultry shield, they all seem to be raving about it and saying its as good as if not better than the poultry shield. Has anyone else used this and if so how have you found it?

I think hens would be very susceptible to chemicals and I think I'd be wary of using cleaning products which weren't meant for hen runs.

Someone will be along shortly though to give you the definitive answer  :D

I have also read about dettol and its effect on red mite so am giving it a try.  So far I haven't had red mite in the three years I have had chooks so hoping now I don't get them.  I dilute the dettol and spray it round the coop, let it dry then let the girls back in.  So far so good.
