Hi again all,
I have taken photos of several plants I don’t recognize in the garden. These look like courgettes or something but I suspect they are weeds.

The plant in question is middle left with the rounded shape leaves.

Something has stripped the bottom leaves off my sweetcorn, what would do this normally? Slugs?

More of the strange weeds, broccoli to the bottom, green beans to the top and who knows what in the middle?

Can anyone identify?

I would treat it as a weed, but maybe someone else will have a better idea. Is the leaf a bit furry, could be borage...you got any nearby?

All I can say at this stage is that they look like a cucurbit. Have you dug any compost in?

A few years ago I had numerous melon plants appear in my runner beans where I had used the compost from the bins at home. The seed were still evident in the compost. (Didn't get any fruit - wrong climate!).

If it's been eaten - no doubt slugs.

Your 3rd photo is a repeat of the 2nd BTW!

Ive dug loads of compost in to the whole garden. It was all home made and i emptied the full bin over the garden. It looked well rotted. You think i should leave it in and see what i get?

I would say that you DEFINITELY have marrows.

Or courgettes.

Or squash.

Or cucumbers.

Or melons..............

Were any of these in the compost?

Corn can be birds, too, look out for slimey slug tracks, if none to be found...

essentially, if it is something you didn't plant and don't want and is in an inconvenient place then it is a weed! I have spuds popping up all over the place from tiny ones left behind last year (dug the patch over about 6 times as well!). I didn't plant them, don't want them there, have got other things like goosegogs and raspberries there now so they are weeds. Have left a couple though in a place where the ground was bare, they aren't weeds, they're spuds!

Dig 'em up, pot 'em up, see what happens

They look a lot like the squash I germinated last year from seeds from a supermarket bought one - grew like Topsy, but I didn't bother growing them on (bit too late in the year and no way to protect them). Fun though - would be great for kids
