Hello there, you are right and wrong about the cover   However, marrows corgettes etc  are very greedy plants. They like lots of space, lots of water and lots of food. keep them tucked up ion lots of well rotted manure and you wont go far wrong. Hope this helps but do remember that slugs and snails looooove these plants and mice aren't averce to them either.
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

Beegly.

I once grew a cucumber in the green house, but it was such a disgusting shape nobody would eat it.

Regarding your bits...a farmer friend of mine used to grow his in a cold frame. Closed at night and opened in the morning.

On reflection, that's not very helpful is it.

On a normal summer, hm, they don't really need the cover.  And without it they get better pollination and you need to water less, last year they some could have done with it to keep the water out, mind.

Hi mate,
Courgettes, about 3' in each direction as it grows into a huge plant, think rhubarb. squash and pumpkins tend to just ramble away like 6', loads of room, but you can get away with this sort of thing around the feet of tomatoes for example so if you're short on space you can do this.

The 'three sisters' idea mixes squash, tomatoes and dwarf french beans for this reason.

HTH
Cheers,

Wayne.

Courgettes will be Ok on smaller space like a foot or two sq, but rest of them will need depending on variety about a sq metre root space of planting distance at least.

What mini variety do you grow, gobs? I have to space mine at least 4' apart & then neglect them, apart from harvesting!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
