My bantams don't seem to damage my plants but I'm sure my hens will.

Does anyone suggest plants that my hens might just leave alone. If there is such a thing.

Every time someone suggests one, someone says their chickens eat it.

I think every chicken is an exception to the rule !

I'd go with Jammy's suggestion.

If you are thinking of making them a large run/ partially free range, net your plants instead of the chickens!

I was told by my neighbour they have 'trained' them not to attack their flowers by bribing them with a ton of beet spinach and lettuce. But these are bantams again, so hens will probably eat the bribes and eat the blooming flowers.

Mine only eat dandelions, I can let the roam on the lottie and the won't eat any of the veggies...they scratch around the edge and are clearing the way into the next lottie which is very overgrown and neglected. They've also uncovered a gooseberry bush which had been completely obscured by brambles. The do prefer to scratch for grubs than eat plants.

I think it depends on the chicken...they eat a lot of the same thing and then also have their personal likes and dislikes.

Luckily they seems to love weeds and most other green plants/flowers, but for some reason leave my spinach and lettuces alone - luckily!

You'll just have to see what your particular ones like I guess...!

The more space you can let them have the less damage they do but mine wait til I plant something new out and that's the last I see of it if I don't cover it. I have a lovely range of old freezer baskets in the veg garden over the tastiest things but it doesn't look pretty.

How about roses?

Mine don't actually eat many of the (few) plants in their part of the garden - they just scratch them up.  All of them ... :(
Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

 mine are pushy birds when it comes to plants.. they' jump/fly up to the netting top to grab a leaf sticking through

they pace up and down 'asking' to freerange too but won't let them at the moment (as veggie patch doing well) ;)

Maybe in the winter when the days are shorter, and the veggie patch quieter. :)

The only thing left standing in my garden was my lavender but now they've taken to sitting in it...they do smell nice now though
