Sick Rooster

Ok, so my rooster has gotten sick, but I am unsure on what the problem is.  When I first notice that he was ill, you would see that the rooster was unable to run straight, and occasionally falling down.  But now, you see the rooster unable to even stand, having very hard trouble walking, or eating, he would have to lay down on the ground in order to eat.  You would see him most of the time laying on the ground, even at night, you would see him sleeping on the ground.  He still attempts to crow occasionally, but it is very weak.  What is wrong with my rooster, did he have a stroke or something like that?

Are you in the USA CornMuffin  ?

How old is your rooster and has any of your other birds ever behaved in this way.  If they hve then it could be a virus infection like Merek's. You could also be right about the stroke.  I think only a vet would be able to tell you the real cause.

If you makes sure he has food and water and shelter he may recover with a bit of TLC  :D

Yes in the usa

My rooster is only 2 years old, so I wouldn't think he was just getting old.  And none of the other chickens have ever behaved this way.

Are you able to get a vet to see him, he does sound quite bad.

I think you have 3 choices:

Advice from a vet

Give him care, food, water and shelter and see if he gets better - he might

or say good bye

Do you hve any friends close by who know a bit about chooks. Maybe they could take a look at him.  I guess your other chooks are quite well !

Thanks, for the advice, I may be able to see a vet, I will try to make sure he has plenty of food, water, and shelter, unfortunately, I have no friends that know much about chickens.  I would not want to say good bye, he is my only rooster
