Greenhouse Advice Please
« on: May 30, 2008, 20:51 »
Hi

Just moved my tomato plants from the growhouse at home (easier to look after as grown from seeds) to the greenhouse at the allotment - first plants put in there and they have only been in there for 2 days - yesterday was really sunny and hot here.

Some of the leaves are like tissue paper - from the book I have I am fairly sure it is "sunburn" - never grown anything in a greenhouse before - we have net curtains   half way up the windows but obviously need to protect the plants from direct sunlight through the other windows.

Book says to paint glass with Cool-glass.  Do you have any other suggestions?

Also do you think plants will recover not all leaves affected and they are still standing strong?

Any advice appreciated - thanks

Double glaze with bubble wrap, warm in winter, cool in summer and helps to diffuse the light.  You can also buy greenhouse shading net from garden centres etc.

Yes, plants should recover.
Cheese makes everything better.

I use diluted emulsion paint!

They should recover.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I never knew that bubble wrap would keep a greenhouse cool... I just assumed it would increase the heat in summer.  :?

I've got some cool glass stuff to put on... I'll invest in some bubble wrap a bit earlier than planned!  :D

Thanks all,

Will be saving all the bubble wrap that I can find - have painted the greenhouse with diluted emulsion as suggested - still warm and light in there but no bright hot rays of sun - tomatoes are looking strong - have fed them and looks like they are going to survive.

Cheers advice really has helped
