B&B in Yorkshire!
« on: May 26, 2008, 19:57 »
When we got home last night we saw a racing pigeon sitting on our front door step and it looked very tired so we decided to catch it because we have a lot of killer moggies round here. Anyway we didn't catch it and flew into someone else’s garden then we saw a cat go after it and there was some fluttering going on and it then gathered strength to fly to a roof top so we though well it will be ok now it's high up and out of harms way. This morning we got up and guess who was on the door step again? So this time we did catch it and it's now fed and watered and safely contained in a cat box and we have now reported it to the Pigeon Association and we now await a call from them tomorrow.

You'd get a big reward for returning him rather than popping him.

They are often worth a small fortune. But obviously wouldn't suggest pigeon napping.

The chicken behind him looks a bit unwell. Get a vet out quick !

Thats very true rich, nine times out of ten the owners don't want them to be returned, because they have to pay the transport costs, kim, have a look under its wings, theres often a phone mumber of the owner :)

I would imagine at this time of year it'll be male, and yup unless he's producing good babies he'll be for the chop :(

well its thanks to a homing pidgeon that I will be getting my chookies on saturday.  Last year one landed in our garden and wouldn't go away.  The owner was in scotland and the bird had been released from Ireland but loads of em from the same rac had got blown off course in a storm.

We got in touch with the owner who asked if we could take it somewhere and release it.  We were going out for the day so popped it in the cat basket (minus the cat  ) and released it when we got to our destination over 2o miles away.  It was back in the garden the next day.....

When we spoke to the owner again he asked if we could find anyone locally who kept pidgeons, we decided we would keep her so hubby set to work building a rather grand pidgeon loft.  She turned out to be the local bike and swanned off with the first wild pidgeon that tried it on....

So have now persuaded hubby to make some adaptations and build a run.  Girls arrive on saturday :D

We had a homing pigeon on our horse yard a couple of years back and we all thought it eventually went home.. maybe it just paired up with a common old pigeon! lol I had no idea they had details on the rings.. I never thought to catch it and look! lol

Newbie, what a result on the pigeon loft/hen house! ;) look forward to seeing pics of your girls when they arrive. :)
