Tomato feeding question

I've just been and bought some tomato food and is says to commence feeding when the first truss has "set".

Does this mean flowered, or does it mean when there are little fruits visible?

Also, is it any good for cucumbers? I found my first little cucumber today!

I think I've got some comfrey on my plot. If I can ever get round to working out how to post pics I'll post one for an i.d. (Although you might regret it, I take LOTS of pics) !!
