Stealing ducklings.

My duck has over 20 eggs in her nest right now [i think she has about 22...]         I'm sure not all of them will hatch. But still.. that's a big number.

Would it be bad if we were to take some after they hatch?  I have a few reasons.. #1, I dont want them to get over populated because we already have about 12 mallards. And I don't want them to get killed. [we use to have 13 mallard ducklings, but I think a hawk got most of them, now we're down to 7]

I'm just wondering because I don't want to totally screw everything up. lol

what are you going to do with them when they hatch? ,,, if you dont want  a load of chicks to care for ,now is the time to remove half or so of the eggs and candle them ... put back live ones dump the dead and then adjust the numbers to suit your circumstances and take pressure of the hen .. 10 is a good number to go for in my experiance with ducklings  :)
still alive /............

I'd raise them then we'd either give them to family members, friends, or sell them[to good homes only..]

I really don't want to do the "birdy abortion"
lol.

I think if you don't want to do birdy abortion then you need to let nature take its course and deal with whatever hatches. Sounds like you already have a plan for what to do if you end up with more than you can handle but hopefully more will go to your friends and family than to the hawk! 22 does sound like a lot to fit under 1 duck!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
