My rooster got attacked by another rooster I have. I have a flock of 18 barred rock hens and two barred rock roosters. Well, apparently they started to not like each other and one's comb has bled into his eyes and it's matted shut. He can't open his eyes because of the dried blood and I can't get them open myself. Any suggestions on a blood thinner that won't harm his eyes or anything?

You just need to bathe his eye with some warm water and cotton wool until the blood disolves away.

warm water with a little dissolved salt ( salt will have a slightly antiseptic affect)
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Poor thing - we had this too. They are quite calm when they realise you are helping them so you can be firm! Hope he is ok.
I don't think they have very much feelin in their combs and wattles as one of our cockerels got his wattle torn so there was piece hanging down. It bled like billy-o and had to cut off the hanging bit but he didnt even flinch. Did do it with super sharp surgical scissors though - very useful drug company present that when I got them I though  'what will i do with these' but little did i know!!

Do hope he's soon perky again. BOYS eh?? Our poor cockerel has to stay shut in at the moment as, hormones raging, the peacock sees him as a challenge! The sooner the breeding season is over the better! Why can' the boys just get along??!!

Oh the poor thing! Try to keep damp to disolve the blood -can you keep him somewhere dark and fix some sort of hood with damp cotton wool to soften the blood? I imagine the teabags are going to help reduce imflamation if the delicate skin around his eyes have been damaged too?
Good luck! They bleed like mad after a fight dont they :?  :?

Well, all the blood around and on his eyelids is gone. I was able to wash it off. BUT, it's like his eyelids are glued shut and will not open still.

Probably has injury to eye itself then. Not much you can do apart from keeping it clean. He may open it in time once swelling etc has gone down.

Just have to leave it to nature if its going to open it will, if not the rooster will adapt. I remember in the old days when they clipped plastic spectacles on the birds beak that obscured the birds vision the idea was  to stop feather pecking. The bird had to turn its head side ways to see by doing so changed the line of attack for the beak :)  Still managed to feed ok though. Hope it opens soon anyway.
