The plot is now looking bindweed free. However, there's so much root in the ground that it's going to be a never ending exercise.

Anway, it's weed-free today

Hi,

I have just discovered bindweed-a-plenty on tbe bottom-half of my plot, The sunny weather seems to have brought it out in force - blooming stuff. Although I must be thankful as our section of the allotments doesn't have marestail!

Sadly, despite our best efforts, bindweed is a lifetime battle, with the bindweed continuing after we're gone.

I do find it strangely relaxing getting bindweed out of the ground. Levering it up by putting the handtrowel under it, it seems to come out beautifully when its small.

I too find it relaxing to pull huge chunks of bindweed out, me and my son have a competition to pull the longest piece out every time we visit :-)
needless to say he always wins
luckily however, its on the community garden bit and not on my beds (though sometimes it appears and it whipped out forthwith!)

3 metres was my best effort !!!!!

Strangely enough ... this is my third year on my plot here, and I think apart from the odd patch I might ... repeat might ... have got control!!  :tongue2:

The bits that I dig out now are tiny bits that I had missed or left from last year.  Origianlly we were digging down two feet to get to the beast!     It is certainly much weaker now !
