Would not like to be downwind of my Jack either (bit smelly to say the least!)
As for best muck I would use horse and straw given the choice but all stables round me use wood chppings as bedding. Have to rot the muck and chippings well down to prevent nitogen being removed from soil

Urine is free and effective as a compost activator.

sorry mate sulphate of ammonia is a nitrogen fertiliser ,you mean  garrote the compost starter i think  :)

sulphate of ammonia will make your cabbages erupt with a 60/40 mix with sulphate of potash .best cabbages i had are 1 mtre across ( spring )
still alive /............

no garrote has chemical accelerants in it to promote chemical breakdown in compost . ammonia and potash are the feeds . sulphate of ammonia is in fact urea ,what we used to get from the humber bank factories it used to be the crystals from human waste that was fermented and then dried for manure etc the crytals ( ura was fed to animals  after being mixed with limestone flour magnesium etc at chapman and frearsons in victoria street north .if you had a cut and got some urea in it ,, boyyyyyyyyyy did it sting but it healed up fast . as it is a urine from human waste i guess it would actuall;y accelerate composting so i could be wrong there .
