I've been really lucky - I put my name down on the waiting list in January and was offered my half plot three weeks ago. BUT it really helped that I said I wanted to share - someone further up the waiting list also wanted to share, so I got bumped up to join her. If you're happy to share, it may improve your chances...

I put my name down for an allotment 2 and half years ago and just got 1 3 months ago. We have about 5 different sites in South Shields but you can only put your name down on 1 site.

Am apparently 37th on the waiting list for a plot at my local council allotments but we are kicking up a stink about it, 17 plots derelict or unworked  and have been for the past 9 months apparently.  Wonderful thing the freedom of information act, going to give them hell about it and find out why these plots haven't yet been allocated.
Not a complete idiot, bits of me are missing.

Why not put a relatives name down on the others?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

in north london (enfield)  we have an upper area and lower area - the upper area has a few empty plots that are not being used as they are overgrown with brambles etc. plus the lower area that is completly overgrown- but noone does anything about it- there must be at least 20 - 25 plots down there- and i can't for the life of me understand why something is'nt being done about it-- we do have a waiting list of about 20 people so  if anyone is looking for a plot and willing to put the time  i would call the council and see what they have to say about it.

I don't get it :? If you already have a waiting list of 20 people why don't they take the plots?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

the reason people donpt take- the plots is that none are offered to them so they don't know they exist-  and no one tells them  that there available-  when i wanted aplot  i wasn't shown any  only the top ones-

Popped up to see my local allotments yesterday and they are huge, must be 150 ft long and about 12 ft wide and there's 101 of them. All sorts getting grown, some have just got chickens some are full of flowers and others full of spuds. Spoke to a bloke who has 3 1/2 allotments and spends most of his time up there, amazing.

27th on the waiting list !!! NOT

Now a 1/3 plot owner :-)

This sounds suspiciously like the council has other plans for them.
