Plant Music ?
« on: May 15, 2008, 19:07 »
Hi Everyone

This is my first year of growing fruit and veg  :D

This morning when I was in my polyhouse potting my strawberries and cucumbers in to bigger pots and watering the tomatoes etc I had a thought    that plants in general are meant to like music.

So I was wondering does anyone who has a greenhouse / polyhouse / polytunnel / allotment etc play music to there plants.

If so what music do you play and have you found they grow better and produce more fruit or veg.

It would be interesting to find out and I look forward to your replies.

Take care

Haha!

Plants (in theory) are to appreciate humans breathing near them (talking/singing?! [crackers ]) due to the carbon dioxide we expel when we exhale. Not sure they appreciate music from a wireless in the same way however lol.

Last year I played music just a local station and my cucumbers was great.
I use  rechargeable battery's so if I leave on they just go dead and I recharge a second lot and change over the following day.
This was in the greenhouse and not loud so as not to annoy the other plants.
Will do this again but now have two greenhouses.
May try different stations say opera on the posh plants and 60s on the others.

I've been in the polytunnel today with Test Match Special on the radio.  I just know the plants appreciated it, I mean, who doesn't?

Mine absolutely love it when I sing 80's classics ... or is it that my wife can't stand it, so I have to do it in the polytunnel ... not brave enough to find out
