Demise of lettuces
« on: May 13, 2008, 15:28 »
Four of some dark red lettuces I planted have just died  on my allotment, although I have been watering them once a day. I can't get there more often. It was 34 degrees centigrade. I had the same thing last year and uniquely with the dark red ones. They just wilt and die. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Try them in shade. Also, earlier and  late in the season.

My soil is very loamy. The ones I planted are next to the ridges of the potato plants (I try to use available space and provide space - for instance I have transplanted some lettuces in between my courgettes);
