Hi,

A BNS question. I have 6 plug plants that I planted yesterday about 12 inches apart - is this too close together? I don't have that much room at the moment as we've only got about 12 the allotment dug over. If so, does anyone know if they transplatn ok if I need to move them later on.

Cheers,

Arlss

Way too close! They need a lot of room for a decent crop. I let the runners on mine go to 6', probably too long I know, but you get the idea re the spacing?!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi,

As I've planted my BN Squashes too close together and I can't dig the other 1/2 of my plot for the timebeing, would it be possible to grow them in pots or grow-bags. Someone in the 'Grow-bag' topic has said they're going to try but I'm wondering if anyone has done this successfully and if so what size pot should I use as large as possible?

Cheers,

Arls

PS I've got my beetroots showing - I'm dead excited!!!

If you've got any compost or rotting manure, just grow them on top of the pile in a bit of soil. Or you could dig a hole in your undug patch, fill it with compost, manure etc and plant them there. They will be easier to keep damp out of a pot and they will help to keep the weeds down.
Last year I had courgettes in grow bags which were a bit disappointing (only 3 tons) because it was hard to keep them watered enough, what with working, going down the pub etc.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Couldn't agree more, can't have watering plants interfering with my drinking time!!  seriously though, Iv'e got a ton of fresh compost, under a tree at the bottom of my garden. It's a nice damp patch, but it's in the shade (apart from first thing in the morning) Do BNS require lots of sun?
