Peahen invasion. Update
« on: May 09, 2008, 11:10 »
Our neighbours have discovered a white Peahen stalking around their front garden this morning. They are feeding and watering it and it seems quite content but in a residential road, it can't stay long.

I've informed the RSPCA and they're hoping it either clears off home or someone claims it. Have put a notice on the front.

Anyone round Boston lost one or want to adopt it ?

Nice picture Rob. I'd like to keep peafowl, all I have to do, is find someone to let me house them at their place somewhere  about a mile away from my house. Noisy blighters.

That's what bothers us. It's moved into our garden and keeps 'chatting' to the chooks. It looks a bit elderly to me but maybe they all do.

I'm going to phone the RSPCA back mid-afternoon and persuade to come for it. If it starts shrieking with the dawn chorus, it'll have a brick lobbed at it.

And at some point the dog will need to go out into the garden. He's got used to the chickens and the visiting ducks but this is something altogether new !

I've phoned the RSPCA and lo-and-behold they closed at lunchtime so as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Rang the local vets and one of the nurses would like one, but only if we can catch it and take it to her

Soooooooooooooooo.

How do you catch a peahen that is currently sat on top of the chook run plastic roof and is looking very comfortable thank you ! I've scattered some corn around the place and there's water on the ground, I have a box barely big enough lined with straw.
If it starts squealing I might go for jimroden's suggestion.

I'm trying to get hold of a chap who keeps peafowl a few miles away. Apparently, he may be contacted by whoever has lost it, assuming it wasn't dumped here.

The only way of getting rid is by complaining to the council enough so they send someone round to catch it. Noise nuisance.

So far it hasn't made a sound. Fingers crossed.

If I could catch it and pop in a box, I'd get parcelforce to deliver !  :)

It's now sat on next door's fence preening. Perfectly happy.

Looks like we might have it for the weekend.  :?

They seem fascinated by her. I've managed to persuade the local 'peacock' man to come and have a look and offer some advice, so we may be able to find a home sometime soon but he suggested popping her in the chook run. It isn't really big enough or I'd give it a try.

It certainly seemed to look a lot happier hanging round the run as if it recognised kindred spirits.  :)
