Weeds in compost bin
« on: May 07, 2008, 17:57 »
Which weeds should I burn and not put in the compost bin (dalek style one)?

I read horse tail, but I also have couch grass, bindweed, dock, and many more I can't identify yet !

Bind weed. Anything that grows whilst you are looking at it and anything ie dandelions that you just never seem to get the full root out.
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

The rule of thumb I tend to apply is that the only weeds which I will even consider composting are the annual weeds - and only those which haven't yet flowered or set seed.

Anything else gets disposed of in the council's green waste bin as i don't have space for enough compost bins to leave big piles of perennial weeds in.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
