« on: May 05, 2008, 19:46 »
I went to the lottie today for the first time in about 4 weeks (yes, a few weeds!)

Anyhoo - there is a row of potatoes I am sure I didnt plant this year - are they safe?

What you mean by safe ??? to grow on and eat yes, but they could harbour disease from last year. there always a few "volunteers" with spuds  :D

That's the polite expression, my grandfather called them 'b*st*rds'. I was a bit shocked when I first heard it, but then I'd only be about 7 or 8!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

goes perfectly with my generally messed up potato year.....when I was chitting my greenhouse (well, the plastic tent thingy) blew over so I have no idea what sort of spud went in where.  It'll be a great year!!  :D

On this subject then... (sorry to hijack your post Babycat   )

I've found a couple of potatoes that I obviously didn't dig out last year and one of them is huge!!!  I mean it's the size of a really decent baking spud (not sure how I missed it really!) and I want to replant it because these one's were fantastic, much better than the bland maris peers I planted but don't know what variety it is.

Will a bigger tattie provide more spuds on a plant?  I ask this because the seed potatoes are only about the size of a large hens egg, not the whole bloomin' hen!

You can cut up a very large seed spud and plant separately as long as the pieces has chits on them.
Never done it personally but read about it.
