not soggy sprouts again?
« on: December 16, 2006, 22:11 »
ALWAYS BUY YOUR SPROUTS ON THE STEM ....... so trim and peel about 8 sprouts per person .and 4 extra now normally you stick them on to boil and they come to the plate tasting dodo soggy and put everybody of for life.well now here's my way of cooking them .i want my sprouts to be cooked but still have that crunch without being soggy , so get your self a large microwavable dish with a lid on . put the sprouts in and a cup ful of water put the lid on tight and stick in the microwave for 3 mins .when they go ding take them out and sample one .it should be firm and sweet .if its ok serve them up with some salted butter and a sprinkling of sea salt if not go for another 1 min and taste again until they are just to your satisfaction ,, i gaurantee you i do them this way and my whole family eats them . oh the 4 extra are for the cook to try  you have to make sure they are perfect dont ya
still alive /............

For years I have hated sprouts until last year when Larry gave me some and we just quickly cooked them rather than boiling to mush.
Wonderful veg.

I always do cabbage by shredding then toss in melted butter in a pan with a close fitting lid. Add a couple of spoons of water and one of lemon juice, little salt and black pepper. Allow to steam until limp (couple of minutes)

Full of flavour with a little crunch,

I think I read somewhere that one sprout has the Vitamin C of four oranges, but I'm drunk on Blackberry wine. I love sprouts but hated them as a kid and lots of my mates say the same.

I had zaiban when we tried to stop smoking but it made Val go funny, plum wore me out. Now I know why :)

It was (being serious) working for me, managed to stop smoking but when you both smoke, it has to be all or nothing really. Val had a serious head injury some years back and the doctor reckoned that was why the zaiban made her go strange.

She went to the loo in the night and fell down the stairs head first - was a rough time.
