Yesterday the local council (horticultural dept) had a plant sale. It was brilliant. Most of the workers who grow the plants here are special needs

and they do a fab job. They were selling trays of every veg going for £1.00. Individual squash plants were 50p and I bought a huge pot of

comfrey for £2.00.Pots of herbs (lovely plants)were 50p. It was a steal really. There were dozens of people and great to see so many buying veg

plants for the first time. Certainly it feels that a grow your own revolution is going on. We bought 40 litre bags of brown bin compost for £2.00. I

also bought a leaf litter bin (one of the springy up types with netting ) off the council for £1.00.There were posters everywhere with information of where local allotments were in the various areas of Burton , Stapenhill

and even the villages. It was a really good morning.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

That sounds amazing. I wish our council did stuff like this!

We lost our summer bedding supplier two years ago, he retired, and really missed having plants in the shop as people then bought pots, compost etc, to go with them.  This year we were approached by a friend who asked if he could put veg in the shop to sell and we agreed.  Hubby and I split the initial outlay (£20) between us and so far we are well in profit.
