Thanks Aunt Sally - so you just have one row of mesh running through the middle of each row of peas??
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

Oh I see - so you string the peas to the twine, then add more rounds of twine and string higher and higher as the peas grow?

Are you stringing every single plant?

No I don't string the peas   - there's literally thousands of them. (There's about 130 feet of Kelvedon Wonder alone in the photo). Peas have their own tendrils for climbing. I just whizz the twine around the whole row as in the photo, they do the rest.

Yes I add more twine as they grow higher.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oh yes - I have to grow this many to make sure a few make it home!

This incidentally is one of the heritage peas I'm growing, named 'Parsley' after the unual shape of the tendrils...

I grew these as a 'seed guardian' two years ago, (that's when the picture was taken). All the pods were allowed to run to seed & harvested. Most were sent back & a few were retained. (Permitted!).

I never got round to sowing them last year, so this is the first year I will have had a taste of them, (I hope). Some I will save for seed again. The tendrils are supposed to be edible also.

This is the pea in full pod...

Auntie - stop drooling!

As far as I know, there will only be two places to get them from.

One of them is the Heritage Seed Library.

(This will only cost you £20 to join!).

From 40 seed I was sent, 39 germinated, this was the return..

There's about 1,600 seed there, (estimated by weight - didn't count them all!).

How tall do the heritage variety grow DD?
I am growing a variety called ne plus ultra that are supposed to grow to about 4 or 5 feet.

That particular one only about 2 feet.

Have another that grows bolt upright to about 4 feet.
