oooh, I'm confused about ... potatoes

Day 5 of the new allotment and ... I'm confused already! Awareness of the level of my lack of knowledge will probably dawn on anyone who reads this...

At the moment I'm preparing a bed for the potatoes. I've been told to get my potatoes in as soon as I can. I'm okay up to that point.

I've been searching the internet for pre chitted organic seed potatoes -   I can hear laughter. So I fear I'm not going to find any of those. I've read that chitting them myself will take about two weeks so not sure I've got time for that. I have found some non-organic chitted Charlottes.

Do I have time to chit a main crop potato (Desiree) myself? Or should I go for the Charlottes even though their earlies?  :?  :?:

No - just bang 'em in!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I don't always chit my potatoes, like DD says, buy what you want and bung them in!!!!  They'll grow, chitted or not.

Anything left in the garden centres/shops should be chitted nicely by now, anyhow. :)

Remember you dont have to start planting till May, they will catch up with anything planted earlier and do better because they have not been halted by the weather.
Whats the date today ?
Time to start planting.

yep just bung'em'in....

I had a bit of spare space last year and bought up the chuck outs at my local store for 50p a bag (was £3.99 per 3kg Unwins seed pots) at the same time as now, put them in the ground and had quite a reasonable crop at least 10/12 tubers per seed..... rem  to water them if it gets dry ONCE they are through the ground...
