I cheated, went to the garden centre and as it's getting late they were selling off potato growing kits for half price. 3 varieties of potatoes and 3 bags to grow in. The thing is, it said fill the bags 2/3 full, plant the potatoes then top up until the bag is full. When I grew potatoes before in a tub I layer more compost on as they grew. If I fill the bags up now I wont be able to do this. Should I just cover them and then add compost as they grow or follow the instructions?  :?

Hello again Milly!
If it was me I would top up as they grew, but as I said before I am definately no expert. Are they chitted ok? The ones I got had good strong chits on them - about an inch and a half long and quite substantial, but I saw some on Weds in another garden centre with long straggly chits - not sure they would do so well.

I bought bags, leaflet said put 2-3inches of compost in bottom.Put in seed potatoes and cover. Top up as they grow.
BIL did them as well last year and got good crop

They looked alright. Have planted them and just covered them. Will top them up as they grow.
