Will the ladies be happy without a perch?

My small chicken ark has arrived...but it doesn't have a perch! I thought I would fashion one out of an old broom handle....Would you say that is the right girth? and do I need a perch per chicken-or would they share one long one? As my ark is only small-i would only be able to stick a perch a few inches off the ground. I know this all sounds trivial but I want the ladies to be happy.

Its not the end of the world if they dont have one, however, its nice if you can fit one in somewhere.  Mine have one in the house and one never roosts on it but they also have a large tree branch in their run which they quite often roost on.  I would think a broom handle would be too narrow for them and you need something a bit thicker but thats just my opinion and all you can do is try it and see, mine have a bit of 2 x 1 which had the edges rounded off them.
