Spuds up/asparagus up??
« on: April 20, 2008, 12:40 »
How are your spuds coming on?

Just seen my first shoots (swift) breaking the surface and an asparagus spear showing in garden at home.  :D

NB Checked soil temp at Lotty 12 deg C at 11AM.

Could this be the end of the cold and wet??!
Cheers HH
Keep digging

All four rows of (Wilkos) Rocket are poking through the mound, considering we planted them somewhat deep, a good spade length trench, then mounded over, they went in Feb 23rd. ( Egham, North Surrey )

Mine have been poking through for a couple of weeks now, I have Wilja and some that sprouted in the cupboard. I know they had white shoots but I figured - what they hell!!

No fog? You're lucky! I'm at work today, so don't mind the bad weather as I can't work the plot anyway... . Tomorrow however and the rest of the week better be glorious!  8)

Duke Of York's are showing, planted them Easter Sunday. And asparagus just poking through. Only planted crowns few weeks ago and was worried we'd done them too early but all seems ok.

My swift are poking though. They went in 16th March. Earthed them up well before leaving the plot today... don't want the frost coming along and wiping them out

My Swift are up for a few days now (Exeter, Devon).

I ought to know when I planted them but I am drawing a blank. They were chitted beforehand, and covered with a whole lot of mulch.

They're looking bright and fresh.

Am hoping the wet plus warmth will really see things change this week, and next week's light frosts will be mild.
