away for a week - quick question...
« on: April 18, 2008, 11:37 »
I'm on hols for about 5 days next week and worried about the plants in my office.

Got everything from 2ft tall toms through to courgette seedlings and herbs on the go.

They all live on various windowsills but m worry is that without water for a week they'll scorch, get dried out or just die.

Would I be better either a) closing the blinds or b) putting them in the centre of the room away from the windows for a week?

PLanning to leave them all in gravel trays with an inch or two of water in the bottom.
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

...don't go away.....
or
get someone to water them
or
buy some capillary matting
or
rig up a drip rig thing
or
take them with you
or
put them out and hope for rain and no frost

Thanks Alex - capilary matting sounds like a great idea.
What about leaving them on or taking them out of the windowsills?

I wouldn't leave them in direct light, this will cause legginess and drying out. Try to get the balance right, group all you plants together, all in one tray if poss.
Ideally 2 trays, 1 filled with water and capillary matting, the other with plants. The matting should go from one tray to the other in one continuos piece, see instruction on packk
