Gardeners World - allotment - episode 2
Well what did everyone think of last Friday's episode?  I cant wait to watch and then come onto the forum to see "the comments".  There are similarities to our allotment site - plenty of spite and bile (and thats the men!!) some nice ones too.  Who says allotments arent political!! :D

Sorry to disappoint, but I've always called it cooch grass  :(
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I always used to call it 'twitch grass' but I seem to have been brainwashed by Gardeners' World and others into calling it 'cooch grass'.

It is sad that our little local idiosyncracies are being homogenised by the telly.

it is definitely pronounced cooch, but spelt couch as John says.  Latin name Agropyron repens although had a name change in recent times to Elymus repens

Cawdor
Used to be indecisive, now i'm not so sure...

That's fascinating   ... no really it is.

I just googled and it seems it has been renamed from a grass to
a wild rye. So should it really be couch rye?

 Just to be really pedantic, shouldn't it be "cooSH" rather than "cooCH" as it may come from the French "coucher" - to lie (down)? After all it does lie down and root all over the blinkin' place.

OK, maybe I should get out more...

According to my 1932 New English Dictionary it can be pronounced 'kooch' or 'kouch'.

No doubt it is derived from the French, but we know how to pronounce it correctly, don't we?
