Is it time for an asparagus wake?
« on: April 11, 2008, 17:07 »
Hello all.

I put some asparagus crowns in around this time last year. During the year they put up a few spindly fronds each. Now there's no sign of anything.

Are they dead, or just resting?

Varieties don't start at the same time, also look out for slugs. 8)

I think mice and rats eat them, too, it's easy to miss the first couple of shoots  due to them being closer.

OK, thanks for the replies. I'll try and be both patient and positive for a while longer.

I planted crowns last year and they didn't like the April dry spell now we just have a cold spell instead. I agree though that it is too early to to start a wake.

Cheers HH
Keep digging
