They are "something" Kidney, apparently Jersey Royals (?).

Just when I think the weather is going to improve it just gets worse   .
Which option is best, put them in when it's still maybe too cold or keep waiting until the weather improves?

I've never grown spuds before.

Well put it this way ...  If you want to get them out of the ground before the end of August ....  you'll need to work this backwards so grab a calender !!

1st earlies need 10-12 wks
2nd     "        "   13
Early Mains   "   15
Late mains    "   20

... and having said that I haven't got mine in either !!!

You can plant them any time as long as they're given enough time before the first autumn frosts.  If you work backwards from the date of first expected frost using the times above then that will be your latest planting date.  Of course if you want them as soon as possible then plant them as soon as it's feasible to do so.

my first and second earlies are in, not that they will be doing much during this cold spell but i have maincrops to go in as soon as this weather breaks.  So you still have time.

So if you're late you actually want earlies? :?

Thanks for that, that's good to know.

Thanks DD, yes they are International Kidney, I couldn't remember and didn't want to brave the torrential rain to go to the garage and have a look  :D
