I have already started thinking about 2009............

He's  mad I hear you say, well.... This is my first year and in my eagerness to get going I have planted stuff too early and have been caught out by the cold weather we have had these past  three weeks.

So I have made a mental note not to plant anything before the last week in March next year and all that will be will my Rocket First Earlie's and Shallots sets. Other than that everything else can wait until April arrives and even then I will take it easy.

Currently I have got going Tomatoes which were sown early March, Cabbage, Calabrese, Sweet peas, Peas, Sprouts and Onion sets which were all sown middle / late March.

I think if I had been a bit more patient and waited then all my crops would have caught up and still be fine.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

Hiya. this is first year ive properly got in to gardening aswell. I got myself a diary and ive written in it stuff like when i planted stuff, if it was too early etc. I thought my pumpkins were ready to go in the ground the other week then after id done it and the frost had got them i went and read my seed packet and realised they cant be planted out till june. oops. All trial and error tho. Ive got the most horrenous memory hence the diary.

Never heard of a gardener who didn't want to be first in the race. It's got to be one of if not the most adictive hobbies there is! Have you got enough seeds to redo for this year? If not I'm sure I will have some spare.
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

Planning for next year is not a bad idea and it goes on right thru the season. Watching what works and what doesn't. That's why you should have an experimental bed trying different varieties and different method

Not only that what is rotation other than froward planning

Everything grows green for a Celt

Mostly organic 'cept weedkiller and slugs

I agree with mtoyne - keep a diary and you will know what didn't work and what did. Keep a note of the varieties as well. Don't give up for this year though - I haven't started my planting yet.
