Is it necessary to support rasbperries?

Excuse my ignorance as I've never grown them before but is it necessary to support your raspberries or will they stand up by themselves.  If I do have to can someone tell me an easy way because I'm not a natural DIY expert

Sorry if these are really silly questions...

No, it's not necessary. :D

Keeps them out of way though, 2 sticks on two ends of row and some rope or similar between them about one foot intervals.

Richy is good at demonstrating this, I'm sure he has some pictures on the ready. :tongue2:

I believe a stick at either end of the bed and three wires at different heights is the correct method.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

In my opinion...yes they do, but it's not too difficult. A sturdy post at either end of the row of rasps.....and perhaps more in the middle depending on the length of the row.......then sturdy wire going between  the posts, every 18inches or so and tie the canes to the wire. :)

That's what I thought.  I have two rows of autumn raspberries and one row of summer.  Apparently the autumn ones are heavy croppers.  They were given to me by a neighbour on my allotment.  I just hope I've given them enough space.  I didn't realise how tall they could get until now  :?

Thank you all for your help by the way.

Perhaps you should start doing your artwork on public property!  You could be the next Banksy, Richy.

Makes lots of dosh and then you can treat me to a new shed for putting the idea into your head in the first place
