Help - just been give 2 baby turkeys
« on: April 09, 2008, 15:09 »
Help Help Help.  My neighbour has just given me 2 baby turkeys.

I haven't the foggiest what I do, where I put them, he has given me some food and said something about them not being able to walk and to keep them warm.

Any advice welcome before i start panicking.  Also I have 2 cats, do I need to  build a cage yet or just keep them in the box.  Oh my god, what am I going to do.

Can they stand up  :?:

They look a bit splay legged is this a condition turkeys get  ?  Or is is because they are on a slipery surface ?

They need to be on something that will help them to stand, something they can push against otherwise they'll just keep slipping  a piece of carpet or something. I'm no expert and someone will be along to help with the other stuff soon I'm sure, but you need to get them stood.

No they cannot stand.  He did say something (in greek) about their legs, I just presumed this is how they are.  He surely wouldn't have given me dodgy birds.

Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Someone who knows more about turkey chicks may be along soon but don't raise your hopes too high.  With baby chickens you can hobble them to bring their legs togerther but I have no idea about turkeys  :(

I've just put them in another box with a thin blanket on the bottom.  They are trying to stand up but their feet keep splaying out.
