Does anyone know is it possible that the pheasant that always turns up in my field each day could have fertilized an egg laid by my free range girls? I don't have a cockrel but found a very strange bit inside an egg recently and wondered if it could have been a partially developed embryo. :?

There are records of it and I used to beat on shoots where a number of crossbreds ocurred occasionally, especially between pheasants and bantams.

Well, well! My male peacock covered my hens last year but we didn't get any chicocks!! This year he's more interested in the peahen than the little bantys...they never minded when he covered them...just looked a little surprised! They still trot round with him when he visits them!

I've been out all day and came back to all your posts, thanks everyone, it's great to have such experience at the click of a mouse. How did we ever find anything out before computers, I'm sure my 40 year old Encyclopaedia wouldn't have been much use!
